Historic Berwick Hotel Client

Historic doesn’t always need to mean stylistically dated but it often does. That was very much the case at this 1700’s hotel in the centre of Berwick upon Tweed when the new owners reached out to us to create two suites to add to the mix of their standard rooms.

Historic Berwick Hotel Scope/Client Brief

Old, dated, musky rooms with a depressing muted colour scheme needed to go to make room for two spacious and fresh suites finished to a higher standard with a more upscale feel. These rooms would be sold at a higher rate and were likely to attract longer stays and a more discerning clientele. They’d serve both holiday makers and contractors who demanded little more than the area otherwise had to offer.

Property Challenges

Speed and cost were two factors to prioritise in the makeover. That meant that the scope had to be achieved with cheaper, well thought out products and materials. The impact would therefore need to be well thought through as we needed a big punch from a cost effective solution.

Our Interior Design Solution

For this project the impact came from the wall colour. A deep aqua related to the hotels new branding and gave us just the lift we needed to cost effectively get the attention of the market. An elegant grass weave wallpaper would add the touch of luxury the scheme needed but used very sparingly without the price tag.

Natural timber and wicker finishes added to the robust feel we wanted in the slightly masculine rooms relating to the travel theme of the adjoining hotel coffee shop. Trunks and rattan chairs gave us the accents we needed and the statement lighting with chrome finishes added the final touches to scream understated luxury.

Luxury was also delivered in the form of improved showering. In the larger room of the two we managed to add a bath and a shower cubicle by placing the toilet in an old linen storage cupboard. This would provide privacy for someone soaking in the tub and the extra room we needed. The space was updated with beautiful finishes like the micro cement feature wall and double basins in the larger suite.
