The new owner of this tiny apartment was new to the area and had fallen in love with the beauty of the coastal Scottish Borders. She set up an open water swimming business and needed accommodation to house her customers visiting the area. And so began the story of this beautiful teeny-weeny flats transformation into a Bijou Holiday Let.
Bijou Holiday Let Scope/Client Brief
The Bijou holiday let project included interior renovation, building work and interior design. We were to make this rather sad one bedder into a gorgeous AirBnB money magnet with all luxuries a visitor would expect!
The Properties Challenges
The layout did not work for comfortable living. The kitchen was boxed off and the entry to the flat bizarrely had 2 doors-one to the bedroom (yes!) and the other to a lounge. The bathroom was really dated too and the whole layout cramped with sort of back to front flow. It just didn’t make much sense and too much of precious space was lost to the strange layout so that was our priority to fix.
Our Interior Design Solution
The space was fully transformed to serve as a luxury holiday let which would now attract a wide clientele.
We reworked the access so that the front door now led into the lounge. This was enlarged by removing the wall separating the kitchen from the rest. By forming an open plan kitchen, we also managed to create a breakfast bar for casual dining. We added window seats to both rooms creating a wonderful dining area in the lounge and a cozy reading corner in the bedroom. Due to a very irregular shape of the bedroom a new bespoke headboard was formed as a space divider between the refurbished shower room and the door leading to the kitchen diner. With every surface renewed and new fixtures, fittings and furnishing sourced this place is now a magical holiday home perfect for a cozy getaway!
