Divine Beach Retreat
Divine Beach Retreat Client
Rachel had fallen in love with this spacious house by the gorgeous Bamburgh coast line on her visit to explore the historic Bamburgh area. Overlooking the beach the sea views were breathtaking. We wanted to create a space Rachel who’d only stay here a part of the week due to her work as a Vicar, could come and recharge at. Extended family from the UK and overseas would visit and this would become a sacred meeting space for them all.
Divine Beach Retreat Scope/Client Brief
This really would be a retreat to come and relax at. The space therefore had to be comforting and warm finished to a high standard without looking obnoxiously done up. It had to have an effortless feel about it priming the visitors for a lovely day ahead at the beach or lunch in the garden. It would be key to the success of the makeover to also maximise the views to both the beach in front and the farmers fields to the back of the property.
The Property Challenges
All the best views out of the house were from height. As the property sat on a hill the beach at the front was well visible but the gorgeous views to the back weren’t in view from the garden which was in a slight angle. To maximise the views to the back of the house we created a new balcony between two bedrooms on the first floor. Like often in this style of houses, there was a small inaccessible flat roof area that was begging for a makeover. After securing planning and permits we punched a hole trough from the guest bedroom and created a beautiful spot for sunset drinks under the gorgeous Northumberland evening sky.
Our Interior Design Solution
In addition to solving some spatial problems and creating more outdoor space, we thoughtfully refurbished the full house. Throughout we went for high end durable finishes echoing the beach vibe. These included reclaimed hardwood timber floors, hessian and seagrass wall finishes, natural wool carpets and warm hues to give a beautiful backdrop for the gorgeous country style lighting and furniture. The outcome is as breathtakingly beautiful as the views – the colours are chosen to echo the changing landscape outside from sandy beiges to deep blues and the materials are heavily textured from soft cottons to sturdy timbers.
