Decodence

Giacopazzi Ice Cream Factory, 2022

Client Intro

Over the years we have done a lot of exciting work for the Giacopazzi family. This time the shared kitchen of multiple businesses was running out of space meaning the gelato manufacturing would need to move off site. The owner made big plans for a new factory, which we were called in to design!

Scope/Client Brief

We created a staff and customer area of the new wholesale premises. The gelato manufacturing would be running out of these premises, with clients visiting the space for tastings and sales meetings. The shared space needed to be fun and vibrant but also approachable and elegant to serve a wide range of clients. It also needed to complement the brand image of the business, which had always comprised of the two elements – Gelato and Fish & Chips.

Decodence was engaged for redesigning the staff and customer facing areas of a new factory, which was purpose built for gelato production in its factory
operations.

Challenges

With such a broad range of requirements there was a lot to consider! The interior was to house desk area for three staff and a manager’s office, meeting facilities including a kitchenette, and a accessible toilet for use of both staff and visiting clients. So this was an office/kitchen/bathroom/showroom design all baked into one delicious project!

Aesthetically we wanted to inject a sense of fun and almost child like adventure! This was to be an inspiring office space for a young team but also a vibrant tasting
and negotiation area for commercial customers. So much to consider to meet all these requirements and in the midst of Covid not the easiest from service and product delivery point of view!

Interior Design Solution

We had a completely blank canvas to start from with absolutely nothing in place but a concrete slab floor and corrugated iron walls! We wanted to create a functional but fun working environment for both the staff based out of here and the B2B clients and buyers visiting the factory. We created a relaxing and inspiring design loosely based on old industrial factories and wharfs – latter of which was a concept inspiring an older project delivered for the same client’s Bar and Bistro operation.
